Schindler SMART: the custom gearless interface frame
In a global context where 80% of the buildings we will inhabit in the future have already been built, elevator modernization is no longer an option but a strategic necessity. Many widespread installations, such as Schindler SMART elevators dating back to the 1990s and early 2000s, now show clear limitations in terms of energy efficiency, safety, and comfort. The high obsolescence of these systems negatively affects both the user experience and building operating costs. Implementing targeted retrofit solutions means responding to a precise building sustainability need: improving the energy profile of buildings, ensuring compliance with current regulations, and above all extending the operational life of existing installations, transforming them into modern systems capable of facing future challenges.
At Sassi, we address this need with a sustainable modernization vision, designing solutions capable of transforming outdated installations into high-efficiency systems without invasive structural interventions.
The interface frame project
The real innovation we introduced for Schindler SMART systems does not lie only in motor power, but in ensuring interoperability.
We designed a dedicated interface frame acting as a technological bridge between the original mechanics and the modern gearless system. This engineering approach allows direct replacement of the traction unit, eliminating the need to modify the shaft steelwork or existing plinths. For the maintenance technician and for the building, this translates into a drastic reduction in downtime and a clean, fast, and precise installation site.
Implementing gearless technology with G-200 TC and G-300 TC
Once the dedicated frame is installed, the transition to the gearless system takes place through our G-200 TC and G-300 TC permanent-magnet synchronous motors. These models represent the excellence of our production and were selected for their compactness and low noise.
Guaranteed performance redefines installation standards:
Capacity: optimized for systems up to 630 kg
Static load: up to 2,500 kg, for superior stability
Speed: from 0.63 to 1.0 m/s
Rated torque: up to 320 Nm
Beyond repair: an investment in sustainability
Choosing our modernization solution means turning a maintenance cost into a long-term investment. The benefits are measurable and immediate:
Energy efficiency – Energy consumption is reduced by up to 30% compared to traditional traction systems, improving the energy performance of the entire building.
EN 81 compliance – The technical upgrade ensures compliance with the most recent safety regulations.
Perceived quality – Absence of vibrations and drastic noise reduction significantly improve user comfort.
The future lies in modernization
Our ability to find specific solutions for multinational platforms such as Schindler SMART demonstrates that it is possible to extend the operational life of installations, making them more sustainable, safe, and high-performing.
We are ready to support industry professionals with technology that looks to the future while respecting the value of existing assets.
